About 35 participants attended the Islamic Seminar hosted by the Iligan Bae Rawatun Peace Circle headed by ACG member Celia M. Rajah on May 30, 2010 at Madrasha Upper Hinaplanon, Iligan City.   The topic was “Ten (Attitudes of a Woman That Can Lead her to Success on Earth and in the Hereafter.”

Mindanao women share pain and trauma of women displaced by Typhoon ‘Ondoy’

We, members of the Mindanao Commission on Women and the Mothers for Peace Movement in Mindanao, share the nation’s grief over the tragedy brought about by Tropical Storm “Ondoy” that wrought such havoc on the lives of thousands of our people. We feel the pain of mothers who have lost husbands, children and other family members in the devastation. (more…)

Asia Pacific Women to Take Stock and Celebrate Gains

NGO women from all over the Asia Pacific will meet on October 22-24 in Manila to take stock, celebrate gains and reflect on the how far they have come to meet the objectives, vision and spirit of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action 15 years after the United Nations conference on women.

“Women will share their successes and failures in advancing gender equality and human rights,” said Irene M. Santiago, chair and chief executive officer of the Mindanao Commission on Women.  “They will also look at the new challenges facing women such as the global financial crisis, peace and security, and climate change.” (more…)

Conference on Pro-Women Laws in General Santos

Mothers for Peace  General Santos City held a conference  on pro-women laws and bills on July 11-12, 2009.  Led by City Councilor Lourdes Casabuena and Bebe-i Gonzales, members of the MCW Area Core Group, the activity helped strengthen their peace work through knowledge of  existing legislation on women.

Women in Local Governance in Conflict Affected Areas

How are women able to make local government institutions and the delivery of basic services effective and efficient? This was the topic of the paper presented by Dr. Melchie J. Ambalong, MCW Vice Chair for Politics and Governance, at the UN ESCAP-sponsored  Regional Technical Seminar on Local Governance and Basic Services Delivery held June 2 - 3, 2009 in Bangkok, Thailand.   (more…)

Women of Spirit, Substance and Style

Ten “Jewels of Light” were given awards as “Exemplary Mothers” at the 42nd anniversary celebration of Davao del Norte province in southern Mindanao. The search for the “women of spirit, substance and style” from Davao del Norte’s eight municipalities and three cities was organized by the Provincial Council of Women and Mothers for Peace in cooperation with the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Center of Davao City.
